The End of an Era – William (Willie) Matthew

Peacefully at home on 28th August 2018 our Company Director – William (Willie) Matthew, aged 94 years passed away.
All are welcome to celebrate Willie’s life on Friday 7th September in Kirkcaldy Crematoriumat 12:45 p.m.
Willie was from the Gallatown in Kirkcaldy and a well-known local coal merchant (W&A Matthew) who, once retired, didn’t find retirement to his liking, so he bought A.J. Crosbie funeral parlour. In 1993, the name was changed to Crosbie Matthew Funeral Directors to incorporate the family name and Willie had many years of involvement with the business. His favourite job was to hand out order of service sheets at the crematorium, where he could greet the many folk that he knew in the town.
When his daughter Sheila joined him in the business in 1989, the format of their business meetings was a walk around the Beveridge Park with Willie’s West Highland Terrier Nicki and any decisions had to be made by the time they finished one circuit. Willie was not one for long meetings or procrastination. He didn’t believe in worrying about anything.
Willie was respected by all the staff and known for his generosity – and it was not only the staff who received weekly steak pies! Sometimes people in the town would return home to find one swinging from the door handle!
