Death at Home
What to do first?
The first thing you need to do is phone the GP if during the day or NHS 24 if out of hours. A doctor or nurse should come within 4 – 6hrs to certify death.
Once the doctor has been, phone us on;
- 01592 640644 (Kirkcaldy)
- 01592 751997 (Glenrothes)
- 01383 822121 (Dalgety Bay)
- 01383 669333 (Rosyth)
Our response time is usually within 1-2 hrs so please make sure you are ready for us before phoning (ie. you are not waiting for family members coming). Alternatively, if you want to spend time with your loved one overnight, there is no rush. You don’t need to phone us until you are ready.
You don’t have to wait until you’ve got the medical certificate to contact us, just as long as a doctor or nurse has visited.
Death in care/nursing home
If you inform the care home of your chosen funeral directors. Once your loved one’s death is certified either by the qualified nurse in the home or a NHS doctor, they will phone us to make the transfer.
If it’s during the night there is no rush for us to come if they are safely in their bed. The transfer might wait until the morning.

Arranging the funeral
When you are ready to talk about the funeral arrangements, please phone us and arrange a suitable time to come into one of our welcoming funeral homes, where everything is at hand to organise any wishes you may have for the funeral (please speak to us if there are any mobility issues).
We will discuss some of the things like;
- burial or cremation
- minister, celebrant or humanist
- music and slideshow
- order of service sheets
- flowers and catering
Not all decisions have to be made during the first meeting, we have a large selection of brochures that can be taken away.
After the funeral
We are always here for your support, whether that’s organising a memorial stone, keepsake memorabilia or putting you in touch with bereavement counselling. Let us know what you want, and we’ll do our best to help.
Draft Confirmation of Arrangements and Order of Service
Once we have talked about what you would like to do, we’ll send you a Confirmation of Arrangements. This will outline what has already been discussed, and what you’ve still to decide. We’ll also send you a draft order of service if you have chosen a design by that point.
Remember that most things decided are not set in stone so they can be changed (ie. number of cars, travel instructions, flowers, catering numbers or menu etc).
The order of service is not printed until 2 working days before the funeral takes place so there is time to make any amendments.
