Death in Hospital

If your loved one passes away in hospital, we are unable to transfer them into our care until the Medical Cause of Death (MCCD) has been issued by the doctor (a release form may also need signed by the family for certain hospitals). This is likely to happen 1-2 working days after the death has taken place, unless there are any questions involving how the person has passed.

You are more than welcome to phone us during office hours to let us know what has happened, even before the death certificate has been issued. A suitable time may be agreed for you to come into one of our funeral homes to talk over the funeral arrangements.

If you have any worries outwith office hours, there is an emergency funeral director on call.

Arranging the funeral

When you are ready to talk about the funeral arrangements, please phone us and arrange a suitable time to come into one of our welcoming funeral homes, where everything is at hand to organise any wishes you may have for the funeral (please speak to us if there are any mobility issues).

We will discuss some of the things like;

  • burial or cremation
  • minister, celebrant or humanist
  • music and slideshow
  • order of service sheets
  • flowers and catering

Not all decisions have to be made during the first meeting, we have a large selection of brochures that can be taken away.

After the funeral

We are always here for your support, whether that’s organising a memorial stone, keepsake memorabilia or putting you in touch with bereavement counselling. Let us know what you want, and we’ll do our best to help.

Draft Confirmation of Arrangements and Order of Service

Once we have talked about what you would like to do, we’ll send you a Confirmation of Arrangements. This will outline what has already been discussed, and what you’ve still to decide. We’ll also send you a draft order of service if you have chosen a design by that point.

Remember that most things decided are not set in stone so they can be changed (ie. number of cars, travel instructions, flowers, catering numbers or menu etc).

The order of service is not printed until 2 working days before the funeral takes place so there is time to make any amendments.
